Root canal treatment also known as root canal therapy or Endodontic treatment involves a treatment sequence of the infected pulp where the infection is eliminated and the tooth is protected from any future microbial infection.
A root canal therapy may sound scary but with today’s technology the entire treatment can be achieved completely pain – free. We also provide 24/7 post treatment care for any complications or concerns- so you can enjoy your hot coffee or your favourite ice creams with no worries.
Root canal is usually performed in 1 or 2 visits. Your dentist starts by numbing the area surrounding the tooth that requires the root canal treatment.
The dentist ( endodontist) drills through the tooth to access the pulp chamber and the root canals.
Very small instruments are used to clean the infected pulp and to shape the canals.
Once the root canal (canals) are shaped, a bio compatible material is placed with an adhesive cement. A temporary filling is placed at the opening.
The temporary filling is removed before final restoration. The final step involves a crown placement to restore the tooth’s full function. If the tooth lacks sufficient structure, then the placement of a post will be required.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you know if you need a root canal ?
Root canal is needed when the pulp tissue becomes inflamed or infected. This can be due to deep decay, cracked or chipped tooth or tooth injury. If left untreated the infection can cause pain leading to a periapical abscess. You may also experience. 1. Severe pain while chewing 2. Pimples on the gums 3. Chipped or cracked tooth 4. Heightened sensitivity to hot or cold food -even after the stimuli is removed 5. Swollen or tender gums
Can a root canal fail?
Root canal treatments can fail because of inappropriate cleaning of the root canals to remove the infected pulp tissue, previous infection of the treated root canal or the breakup of the sealant.
Will I feel pain during or after root canal therapy?
With modern techniques and anaesthetics most patients report being comfortable during the procedure. The first few days following the treatment – your tooth may feel sensitive. This discomfort is usually relieved with over the counter or prescription medications. However if you continue to experience pain, consult your dentist immediately.
What happens if you don’t get a root canal?
Sometimes the tooth can become slightly discoloured following root canal treatment and develop intrinsic stains (tooth bleeds internally) and the inner part of the tooth turns yellow or black. The tooth can be whitened internally through non vital bleaching.

Dental Implants have completely transformed dentistry on the replacement of missing teeth. In today’s modern dentistry and with advancement in technology the outcomes of dental implants have significantly improved and the success rate is 98%.
A dental implant is an artificial, surgical device that is placed in the jaw bone. The implant device is allowed to fuse with the jaw bone ( over a few months) and the replacement crown or bridge is placed over the artificial tooth root. These dental implants are the closest devices that mimics natural teeth. Most dental implants are made up of titanium that allows the implant to fuse well with the jaw bone ( osseointegration).
Full mouth dental implants
If you are missing all of your teeth then an implant- supported bridge or an implant- supported full denture can replace your missing teeth. The advantage of full- mouth dental implants are:
- Function like normal teeth
- Comfortable and stable ( when compared to normal dentures)
- Does not interfere with your normal biting and chewing capacity.
- With implant supported bridges or dentures, the bone is well preserved.
- Easy to maintain

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do full mouth implants last?
Implants are a long term solution for your teeth replacement and can last up to 25 years. The key factor for success of implants is to maintain good oral hygiene practice involving the replaced teeth and surrounding gums.
What is the time taken for the implant treatment?
From the initial placement of the implant to the final placement of the prosthesis- the treatment duration can vary from 3-6 months depending on the number of implants placed and the bone strength. However the entire process can be completed in one day if the patient had adequate bone structure.
Does food get trapped under the implants?
There isn’t any room for food to get trapped under the implant. Food can get collected around the replaced tooth and gums of the implant restorations. Dental implants must be cleaned regularly just like our natural teeth. Implant- supported restorations have to be cleaned around the implants and beneath the span of the restoration.
How much time do you have to wait for a new tooth?
Once the implant is placed, it will take 2-3 months before the final prosthesis is inserted ( this is to allow good healing time). During this period a temporary tooth is fabricated and placed over the implant.

In today’s times, crowns and bridges are made up of natural- looking materials like ceramics or porcelain that are indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
Crown placement involves a two- step process. Firstly the tooth is prepared to place the crown. Then an impression is taken and sent to the laboratory where crowns or bridges are made from the most advanced materials that mimics the natural tooth for long-lasting durability. A temporary crown is crafted to protect the tooth until the permanent crown is being fabricated. The tooth is carefully cleaned and a special adhesive cement is used to fix the permanent crown or bridge in place.
“ It’s all fun and games until the tooth gets knocked out”.
Crowns and bridges functionality and age depends on your oral health. Regular oral health check-ups, avoiding unhealthy sticky foods and good oral hygiene practice will extend the longevity of your prosthesis.
If your crowns or bridges are worn down or damaged – do drop in for a consultation and we can plan replacements. Older materials used in crowns and bridges are not as natural looking as today’s modern materials.
Foods to be avoided for permanent dental crowns and bridges includes:
Hot foods : some people experience severe sensitivity while consuming hot foods particularly around the gums.
Cold foods: cold foods can cause sensitivity similar to hot foods if any part of your crown recedes exposing the root above the crowned tooth. Using a desensitized tooth paste will reduce this problem.
We are always happy to assist you and your family with the correct brushing techniques post crown or bridge cementation

The DSD is a digital planning tool, widely used in aesthetic dentistry to evaluate the aesthetic relationship between teeth, gums, face and smile. The DSD is considered as one of the latest innovations in Modern Dentistry. The DSD software helps in creating whiter and aesthetically pleasing smiles that meets the patient’s expectation in enhancing their facial appearance.
How DSD software works?
The DSD software works by creating lines and digital drawings that are placed on the intraoral and extra oral photographs of the patients. The use of DSD provides dentists and technicians a new perspective toward diagnosis and treatment planning thus enhancing the communication between patients, dentists and technicians.
The advantage of using DSD definitely diminishes clinical errors and inadequate patient to clinical communication. However accurate digital planning involves precise photographs that helps the patient visualize beforehand and involves trying creating their own smiles.

For mild to moderate gum problems non/ surgical procedures such as scaling and root planning are used to deep clean the gums. If periodontal disease has progressed, then the need for minor surgery to address the loose pockets is considered. An alternative less invasive option is to use a Nd: YAG Laser to correct the loose pockets. Advanced gum disease can lead to damaged gum tissues and surrounding bone loss. This can be corrected or reversed by performing regenerative procedures like bone grafts, gum grafts and gingival tissue stimulating treatments.
A wide range of periodontal treatments are performed at our practice. These include:
- Non surgical treatments
- Gum graft surgery
- Dental crown lengthening
- Dental Implants
- Periodontal pocket reduction procedures.

Having a beautiful smile can overall improve our appearance and boost our self-confidence. The fact is very few people have a naturally looking perfect smile but most of us have some flaws or defects that make our smile look less desirable. When it comes to correcting smiles, veneers are one of the versatile options available.
Veneers are made of porcelain that covers the front portion of your teeth. The veneers can be matched to the shape and colour of your teeth. Veneers are slightly thicker than lumineers and hence some of the tooth material needs to be removed so the veneer sits uniform with the neighbouring teeth. Once the tooth matey is removed , you would always need some covering on your tooth. In short , veneers are not reversible.
Lumineers are considered to be an innovative twist to the porcelain veneers and offers certain advantages to the patients. Both veneers and Lumineers are fabricated in the laboratory, the lumineers are much thinner and no tooth material is removed. As no tooth material is removed lumineers are completely reversible. As lumineers are much thinner , many patients feel they resemble the natural teeth. Our team of highly skilled professionals are there to provide you with suitable treatment plans by offering free Aesthetic and Cosmetic dental consultations.
